According to the historical point of view, there were many Teochew people who once came to Johor Bahru to start a new life and make a living. Since most of the Chinese residents of Johor Bahru are Teochew people, the city was dubbed as “Little Swatow” (Shantou). In line with this, there are many Teochew-style cuisines (also known as Chiuchow cuisine, Chaozhou cuisine or Chaoshan cuisine) that can be tasted in Johor Bahru. Here are some of them:
