8 Things Every Malaysian Should Know in May 2019

A couple of days ago, the month of May has approached; indeed, time flies really fast! In line with this are a set of events and information that you should look forward to!

1. Public Holiday

According to the national public holiday list, there are 6 holidays in May 2019. Two are public holidays while the four are state-based holidays.

Public Holidays:

May 1 (Wednesday): Labor Day (Whole Malaysia)

May 19 (Sunday): Vesak Day (Whole Malaysia)

State-based Holidays:

May 6 (Monday): Eve of Ramadan (Johor, Kedah, Malacca)

May 22 (Wednesday): Nuzul Al-Quran (Except Johor, Kedah, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah, and Sarawak)

May 30 (Thursday): Harvest Festival (Sabah and Labuan)

May 31 (Friday): Next day of Harvest Festival (Sabah and Labuan)

3. Johor Bahru’s first aerial glass walkway

If you think you need to travel to Penang to experience an aerial glass walkway, then you’re wrong because Johor Bahru has its first—located on the top floor of  Menara JLand JBCC! It has officially opened on the first day of May and is open to the public from 9:30 am to 10:00 pm!

 

4. Gunung Pulai Hiking Permit

It is stated that starting from 1 May 2019, people who will hike up to the first part of Gunung Pulai Johor Bahru area need to apply for a permit with Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Johor amounting RM150. However, this has been postponed until further notice.

 

5. Public Bank RM1 Billing Fee from May

In line with the environmental campaign, Public Bank imposes an RM1 Hardcopy Statement fee on the cardholder per month.  For those who have two different credit cards on the checkout date, the charge will be RM2 and so on… On the other hand, senior citizens (aged 60 and above) are automatically exempted from RM1 as they are not included in the policy.

If you don’t want to be charged with RM1, might as well choose eStatement; Electronic Billing isn’t just convenient but environmentally friendly too.

 

6. Show proof of utility bill for changing the address on MyKad

According to the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, starting on 2 May 2019, those who want to update the address on their MyKad must present supporting documents like utility bills.

 

7. Meteor Shower

If you’re fond of watching heavenly bodies, don’t miss the Eta Aquarids meteor shower on the evening of May 6! The said meteor shower generally occurs between 19 April to 28 May of every year, but this year’s peak starts at 9:00 pm on May 6, where you can witness up to 50 meteors per hour.

 

8. A-MAY-zing Movies
