To tie in with the automated boarding process, Air Asia officially launched the first Fast Airport Clearance Experience System (F.A.C.E.S) in Malaysia on February 6 at Senai International Airport. With the latest technology of facial recognition system, the airport also makes AirAsia as the first airline in Asia to introduce a hassle-free travel experience from checking in to boarding.

‘ID No More” System

According to AirAsia officials, the system uses state-of-the-art biometric technology to get the information needed to board a flight by simply scanning the passenger’s face, just like in a passport. Passengers only need to sign up once to use the automated boarding pass for a quick, convenient boarding experience. The face recognition system can record up to 60 facial features, as long as it is not a substantial makeover. The system is able to identify passengers past facial features through their relevant records.

Speeds up Security Clearance and Boarding Process to Accommodate a Huge Number of Passengers in the Future

Official sources stated that the number of AirAsia passengers from and to Senai International Airport have been increasing each year. It is extremely important to develop and implement new systems to enhance passengers’ boarding experience and to accommodate the crowd flow.

The arrival of the new system will not only shorten the boarding time, but also keep the passenger’s information in confidential. To date, the first pilot phase has been completed and nearly 3,000 local flight passengers board the plane without the need to produce any documents.

The system doesn’t yet include the processing when it comes to immigration and border as they want more to focus on fast and convenient checking in and boarding.
