Essential Services to Continue Operation during 2-week National Lockdown in Malaysia

Yesterday, March 16, at 10:00 pm, Malaysia’s prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced national lockdown in the country from March 18 to 31, 2020 to stop the spread of the COVID-19. This decree was issued under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988 and Police Act 1967.

In line with this, public movements and gatherings are restricted, as well as, all public and private business have to be shut down. 

 

Businesses to continue operation include:

  1. Supermarket / Grocery Market
  2. Grocery / Convenience Store
  3. Catering Industry (no dine-in, only takeaway services)
  4. Food Supply / Wholesaler
  5. Public Transportation
  6. Hospital / Clinic
  7. Transportation (Grab)
  8. Basic essential services (electricity, water, telecommunications, postal, gas, fuel, lubricants, broadcast, financial, banking, health, pharmacies, fire and rescue services, prison services, port, airports, security, defense, cleaning, various goods, and food supply)

 

Closed industry:

  1. Educational Institution
  2. Shopping Malls
  3. Services and Sales
  4. Hardware / Repair Industry
  5. Factories (except daily necessities, food, essential production)
  6. Entertainment
  7. Non-essential retail
