Iskandar Malaysia to Become International Metropolis

Since its establishment in 2006, Iskandar Malaysia has been seen the potential as an emerging zone in Malaysia, thus becoming fifth in rank next to Northern Malaysia Economic Corridor, the East Coast Economic Corridor, the Sabah Development Corridor, and the Sarawak Renewable Energy Corridor.

Ten years after, Iskandar, which is located next to Singapore, has grown steadily over the years. Not surprising that it attracted even the overseas real estate developers, hence continue to develop rapidly in the next 10 to 20 years—and gradually becoming a cosmopolitan city.

Covering an area of approximately 2,217 square kilometers, Iskandar is divided into five flagship areas, where each has its different development focus. Therefore, it is expected to become an international metropolis in the future!

Here are the five flagship zones in the region:

Flagship Zone A: Business Center in Johor

This flagship zone is dominated by Johor Bahru downtown and developments include the Angry Birds Activity Park, Komtar JBCC shopping mall, DoubleTree by Hilton, Bank Simpanan National building, as well as other financial districts and Central Business District. As for the ongoing projects, it incorporates Mid Valley Southkey Megamall, Astaka Padu at Bukit Senyum, Columbia Asia Hospital Tebrau, Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, Thompson Medical Specialist Centre, and R7F Princess Cove.

Flagship Zone B: Administrative Center

The flagship zone B is a wasteland-turned-administrative-center, which composes most of the completed projects like Educity at Iskandar, Bio-Xcel Malaysia, Puteri Harbour, Legoland Malaysia, Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studio, University Reading Malaysia, and residential development projects. On the other hand, the currently in progress projects are Sunway Iskandar International School, Johor Darul Ta’zim Sports City, Puteri Harbour Convention Centre, Nusajaya Downtown, FASTrack Iskandar racetrack and the Sunway Iskandar residential development.

Flagship Zone C: Western Gateway Development

Dubbed as the Western Gateway development zone, it brags about the construction of Tanjung Bin Power Plant, Forest City, Sunway at Pendas and Sungai Pulai Wellness Resort.

Flagship Zone D: Eastern Gateway Development

Under this zone are the five completed projects involving Renaissance Hotel, Tanjung Langsat Port, Tanjung Langsat Industrial Park, Boulevard at Permas Jaya and City of Knowledge at Bandar Seri Alam. Zone D also has ongoing projects like Johor Halal Park, Sime Darby Business Park, and Senibong Cove.

Flagship Zone E: Tourism, Shopping, Logistics, and Manufacturing

The last flagship zone, which is in Senai-Skudai area, is composed of completed projects like Johor Premium Outlet, Senai Technology Park, Senai Hi-Tech Park, i-Park at Indahpura, i-Park at Senai Airport City, Senai Business Park, Eco Business Park, Synergy Cloud Data Centre, and Hershey Malaysia plant.
