Launching of automated M-BIKE system aims for speedier immigration clearance and hopes to lessen the traffic congestion that motorcyclists often experience. After the full implementation in December, it is estimated that a total of 40,000 local commuting to work in Singapore will benefit.

According to the report of The Star, in December this year, there will be a full implementation of M-BIKE automatic clearance system in order to solve the immigration problem. As long as the immigration’s passport has an attached radio frequency identification (RFID) sticker, scanning fingerprint will automatic gates will open and clearance. This automated clearance system can also detect whether there is a motorcycle pillion, thus requires them to scan a finger.

Solving the shortage problem over the years

Every year, many local and foreign immigrants at Johor causeway failed to produce a passport and were fined and imprisoned. In the first nine of this year, there are 104 local and foreign immigrants were detained check. Violators’ reasons include, negligence, clearance counter closed, no immigration officials stationed at passport control which resulted to 1,500 to 1,800 ringgit fines or 2-3 months in jail.

The new system is eligible for the public good response

“It’s not only to enhance security, but also can slow clearance of two motorcycle traffic levels” as said by Johor immigration director Luo Haizi regarding Sultan Iskandar Building (CIQ). He also said that the new system is gaining good response level to people in Johor Bahru, in fact, just this 30 September, about 4,500 people were registered to the new system. There are currently 100 motorcycle road clearance in Sudan Iskandar Building, Gelang Patah and 50 tariff in Sultan Abu Bakar Building. He added that after the automated clearance system is enabled, the original charge of motorcycle road is at least about 60-70% duty staffing levels and clearance attention can be turned to other areas.

According to News Channel 8, one-stop registration center will open this month.
