Fire is something that anyone can’t foretell. It happens in the most unexpected time without prior notice. Recently, Johor Bahru experience 3 consecutive bombings causing casualties.

How can we avoid this kind of incident from occurring?

There are some important tips that we need to consider with regards to fire. In general, escape has three types. Here they are:

1. Escape Evacuation

DO NOT use the elevator. Power is often interrupted when fire break out, so there will be a tendency to be trapped inside.

Look for escape port (usually with green light indicator)

Squat or crawl. Cover your mouth and nose with wet towel to avoid the invasion of smoke.

Due to the hot air rising temperature, fire smoke will diffuse the entire space causing the smoke to afloat on top. In this case, a person stuck in a place needs to squat down or crawl  to breath a more fresh air. Try to evacuate the place and put your head close to the ground as possible.

Escape along the wall

During this scene, most people often show panic which causes them to missed how to escape. In times like this, try to conquer your fears and panic, instead, look for the escape door and go if it is safe to enter.

2. To be saved in the room

Shut the door to avoid smoke to cascade

Move easily and try to be rescued safely.

When the fire broke and you happen to be inside the house of building, try to run into a safe staircase and head to the top floor so you can be easy to rescue. But, if you are unfortunately trapped inside a room, try to look for a way to the balcony or window and wait to be rescued.

Avoid breathing smoke

During fire incidents, smoke is the greatest enemy. So try not to avoid inhaling it or else, it may cause fainting which will affect your escape.

3. Things to be used in escaping

DO NOT be hopeless that you might not be rescued. Never give up instead have the will to survive. Be calm and look for something that will help you to escape.

Make an escape rope using sheets or curtains

If times get rough and you are very eager to escape, sheets or curtains will make the the best tool. Roll and link it by knotting the ends. Tied the rope to a pillar of the room or balcony and throw down the rope tail. Climb down to escape.

Use drain pipe to escape

You can also use house drain pipe in climbing down to a safe floor or ground.

DO NOT jump to escape

There are people that are forced to jump from the building or house to escape the fire. But this is a big NO! Never ever jump or else this might cause you death or injury. So, it is best to stay in the room, prevent the invasion of fire and smoke and wait to be rescued.
