Chinese New Year is one of the busy times for Chinese people. It is the season when most people go home to celebrate the special event with their family and friends. As well as the time when everyone goes to temple to send their prayers and ask blessings for another whole year. In speaking of, here’s a list of temple that you should visit for celebrating Lunar New Year!

1. Johor Old Chinese Temple

Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple is a great place for worship with rich culture and history. Since this temple is flocked by devotees daily, expect that it will be more during CNY holidays.

2. 柔佛新山三善宫(Rumah Berhala Sam Siang Keng)

This temple founded back in year 1945 is said to be the largest in Johor Bahru. Since the worship temple is not enough to accommodate the growing number of devotees, the temple has been moved to a wooden house at Jalan Stulang Laut, hence the start of Sam Siang Keng.

During CNY, the temple is visited by people who want to send prayers and light incense with the belief that good luck, peace and prosperity will come to their lives.

3. Temple Hwa Kuo Shan Sedenak

Located about 34 kilometers from Johor Bahru is Temple Hwa Kuo Shan Sedenak, a worship place for many devotees which has been around for more than three decades. The temple houses Chinese deities as well as the Thailand Buddha.

4. Putuo Village

Aside from being a good place for those who for a place to hide from their busy city life, Putuo Village is also a must-go during CNY, since it is a village with a combination of Chinese and Buddhism culture. In addition, the village also prepares a lot of exciting games and programs for a more festive celebration of Chinese New Year!

5. Ulu Choh光明寺

Ulu Choh光明寺 is famed for housing the most iconic statues in Malaysia. As a matter of fact, many pilgrims from Penang, Ipoh and Singapore come here to pray for peace and security. In addition, the number of statues in the temple from the recent years to present has been notably increasing. As a proof, the temple does not only has a 21-foot tall Guanyin statue but the 28-foot tall statue of Mazu!

6. 地南古庙 Ku Miau Temple Sungai Tiram

This ancient temple located in the south of Ulu Tiram was once a small temple which has witnessed the history of Sungai Tiram. The temple is also said to be one of the first 60-year-old temples.

7. Tua Pek Kong Temple 崇龙宫大伯公庙

Tua Pek Kong is one of the famous worship places and a great tourist spot, as well. The temple is set in Segenting fishing village and houses many Gods including Mazu, Da Bo Gong and Hai ong Wang. Many worshippers visit the place to pray for blessings and good fortune.

8. 普陀净寺

Since 1924, 普陀净寺 is well known for having goddesses that helps women bear a child, hence attracting many newlyweds in the hope that the deities will grant their wishes.

If there’s one thing that you should never forget (aside from praying and lighting incense) when you visit Chong Long Gong Temple in Batu Pahat, it’s touching the arapaimas fishes! It is believed that whoever touches the fishes will be blessed with good fortunes.
