My Watch Story: Celebrity Chef Nik Michael Imran

The Malaysian celebrity chef on his favourite watches.

Bursting into the scene on Masterchef Malaysia’s debut season in 2011, Nik Michael Imran, or Chef Nik as he’s commonly known, has been weaving his way into the hearts and stomachs of diners with his charming smile and brand of comfort food. When not in his chef whites, he likes to dress down with a Pestle & Mortar T-shirt and sneakers (although he cleans up good in a white shirt), always armed with a favoured timepiece that marks an important milestone in his charmed life.

“This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore was a wedding gift from my father-in-law. He knows I love diving and I felt like he really knew me as a person because this is not too flashy nor too understated.”

“As a chef, I loved the brand Pestle & Mortar, and was a fan before I ever went on TV. I love how they combine streetwear and Malaysian culture with their signature batik pockets. They’re my go-to look when I’m not in uniform. The Hypergrand watch was a good luck gift from them after I received my first award nomination.”

“My father bought this Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust the day I was born. When I turned 21, he gave it to me and said ‘now this watch belongs to your son’. It’s my favourite because it’s the most meaningful.”

“White shirts are such a classic look and cufflinks just make an outfit pop. I wear this Bedat & Co. the least because it’s such a formal and dressy watch. My wife and I have this in a his and hers set, and we’ll wear them together when the occasion calls for it.”
