It’s the month of fasting, a period wherein our Muslim brethren focus on praying, charity-giving and must refrain from consuming food, drinking, smoking and other doing sinful behavior.
On the other hand, if there are some who refrain from eating, there are also some who, especially the non-Muslims, who are seeking for a perfect food to taste during Ramadan season. So, let us uncover these food at this Ramadhan bazaar!
1. Murtabak
A pancake stuffed with minced beef, onions, egg, garlic and then fried until it turns to golden yellow. This food is commonly found in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
2. Roti John
A popular hamburger snack in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, which is regarded as the staple food of our Muslim friends during fasting month. Roti John is filled with meat and black pepper sauce.
3. Kuih Tepung Pelita
Kuih tepung pelita is a known traditional malaysian cake which is made of coconut milk, rice flour and prepared in banana leaves.
4. Lemang
An all-year-round food that is especially offered during Ramadan season. Lemang is made of glutinous rice, cooked with coconut milk and prepared in hallowed bamboos. This special food is often accompanied with chicken curry or beef rendang—sometimes with grilled fish, durian or tapai.
5. Roti Jala
A Malaysian food which literally means “net bread”—kinda obvious with its appearance—is one of the most popular Malay snack during fasting month, which is often served with curry juice.
6. Ayam Percik
Ayam Percik is a Malaysian grilled or roasted chicken which is marinated using special sauces.
7. Arabic Kebab
A popular food in the Middle East which is also a common food during Ramadan. This snack uses pita dough or ordinary bread with barbecue, onion, cabbage and sauces.
8. Satay
A beef, chicken or lamb meat skewered onto a stick and is dipped in secret sauce.
9. Agar Agar
A colorful pastries of different colors, which is one of the food that you shouldn’t miss during fasting season.
10. Roti Goreng
A fried bread which comes in three different flavors: sambal sardines, black pepper and chicken.
