Apple is adding new features to its device-tracking tool ‘Find My’ to make it easier to locate stolen or lost iOS 15 devices. “Locate while powered off” and “locate after wipe” are two of the new functions.

According to Apple, the former ‘Find My’ can locate a missing device that was low on battery power or that may have been switched off by a thief. The latest ‘Find My’ could find the devices even if it has been reset to factory settings. It states that the Hello screen will clearly display that your smartphone is locked, locatable, and remains yours to help guarantee that nobody is duped into purchasing your stolen smartphone.

Besides, with iOS 15, your iPhone could still be tracked by the Find My network even when it is turned off. With the iOS 15 upgrade, your “switched off” phone will not be completely turned off. It will remain in a low-power mode for at least a few more hours. Your iPhone will function like an AirTag, to allow any nearby iOS device to pick up the Bluetooth signal and report its location back to you.

If you don’t want to use this feature and would rather actually turn off your iPhone, you could disable the low-power Find My mode from Settings.
