1. Formerly known as Sultan Ismail International Airport

Senai International Airport is formerly known as Sultan Ismail International Airport with an International Air Transport Association airport code (IATA): JHB; ICAO: WMKJ.

Senai International Airport was officially opened in 1974 – has been around for 42 years now! Wow!

3. Royal Hangar

Just this year, Johor Sultan’s new Boeig 737 aircraft which is painted in gold and blue had arrived at the Senai International Airport.

4. Malaysia’s first and only non-Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) airport

In 2003, Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB) took over an operation from Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) which lead it to become the first and only non-MAHB operator airport. At that time SATSSB invested more than 60 million ringgit to upgrade and improve facilities and infrastructure of airports and land operations.

5. Non 24 hours operation

Senai Airport is not operating for 24 hours a day. It is only open from 6:00am – 11:59pm.

6. Large international routes

Senai Airport has 7 international routes including AirAsia, Firefly, Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Indonesia AirAsia and Thai AirAsia.It also include round trip to Ho Chi minh City, Bangkok, Thailand, Hat Yai, Bandung, Indonesia, Yogyakarta and Surabaya, Guangzhou. In January 2017, it will also open direct flights to Jakarta!

7. Can carry about 3.5 million passengers

As Senai Airport data of 2015 shows, the airport carries 3.5 million passengers each year. In 2003, Senai Airport has a carrying capacity of 800,000 passengers which climbed to 2.5 million in 2015. Today, it can handle up to 4.5 million passengers.

8. Can handle up to 80,000 tons of cargo

Having an area of 3,600 square meter, Senai flight can carry up to 80,000 tons of cargo per year!
