In three years time, people traveling to and from Kuala Lumpur can have a convenient commute as the Gemas-Johor Bahru electric double-tracking railway project expects to start operation by the end of 2021.

Approximately RM30 fare from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur

Based on the online report of China Press, it will only take 1 hour and 30 minutes to travel from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur once the dual-tracking electric train starts the operation. The fare is estimated to be around RM30.

Originally, the project should have started last 2016 and be completed in 2020, but due to technical problems the plan has been rescheduled just this 2018 and expected to be done by the end of 2021.

Includes widening of three major roads in Johor

State Public Works, Rural and Regional Development Committee chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad said that the electric double-track railway project includes widening of 29 road crossing bridges, including three major road crossings in Johor Bahru  (Jalan Dewata, Kebun Teh, and Ungku Mossin). It will also run through four towns namely Johor Bahru, Kulai, Kluang, and Segamat, where 11 pick-up stations will be set.
